Cahir Notes for 11th January, 2012
CAHIR TIDY TOWNS
Following a very constructive AGM on Friday evening last the Group have agreed to act on a number of issues. But first we will meet this Saturday for some much needed weeding. We have also confirmed that the previously deferred Pub Quiz will now go ahead on Friday 24th February, 2012 in the Shamrock Lounge, Cahir to subsidize hanging baskets and window boxes for the town in a bid to gain more much needed points in the National Competition. In this respect, Grangemore Landscapes have once again come to the rescue and will make up sample hanging baskets and window boxes and will do so through the Tidy Towns Group for the small cost of €20 for anyone who wants them. What is more they will also plant the Castle Car park flower bed. Grangemore must be commended on the help and assistance given toTidy Town’s efforts during the year. More details of all items mentioned to be printed on this page.
Officers elected at AGM were; Chairperson- Andy Moloney, Vice Chairperson- Denis Ryan, Secretary- Jeanette Wicherley, Public Relations Officer- Maria Taylor and Liaison Officer- Richie Cagney.
SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY
It’s that time of year again and Cahir Garda District is pleased to announce that the very popular Annual Senior Citizens Party will take place this year in Cahir House Hotel on Friday 20th January at 5pmish. As usual anyone wishing to attend the party that doesn’t have transport can contact Pascal at Cahir Garda Station on 052 7445630 to give your name, address and phone number for the information of the Committee. They will try to arrange transport for you between 4pm and 4.45pm on the evening of Friday 20th January, 2012.
This is always an event that I try to attend as it really is good fun and the dancing that goes on really would put younger people to shame. So mark Friday 20th January in your diary and book your lift if you need it.
‘THAT’S CINDERELLA’
As a Pantomime is such a rare treat in Cahir during the festive season I took the opportunity to take my 3 grandchildren to see the ‘Thats Cinderella’ production in the Community Hall on Thursday evening last.
On entering the hall I met with Pantomime Director, Maggie Davis who was nervously greeting people as they arrived. Maggie need not have worried as the show went without a hitch and everyone got into the spirit of things by participating in the “Oh no you won’t’s and the “don’t touch the custard’s”! My grandchildren and indeed all the children present had great fun and even though I was sure that they would not manage to sit for the entire performance, they and all the other children did and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The cast of That's Cinderella!
Credit must be given to the Director, Producer, the entire cast and crew, musicians, light and sound technicians, set builders, dressers, parents and all those who helped in any way put the by now very popular show together, of course much too many to mention. Suffice to say this was an extremely successful show and I truly hope that there will be another next year.
Congratulations and well done to all involved.
CAHIR SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB UPDATE
The Club will be having a get together on Monday 16th January, 2012 at 7pm in Cahir House Hotel to discuss and plan ‘Meet and Train’ evenings, from a couch to 5k programme. With the 3 upcoming events already planned, anything else you may want to discuss in relation to the running of the club is most welcome. Those that wish to get involved with the running of the club are most welcome too. Training and courses are available to those that do. A time commitment of approx. 1 hour per week is all that would be required, so if you have an interest, let me know. You don't have to be an athlete, just someone who has an interest. We are busy measuring different routes precisely at present to aid training and also for those that wish to improve their times. ST. KIERAN’S FC
St Kieran's FC Vs Ballyneale
St Kieran's travelled to Ballyneale seeking a win to start a hopeful New Year. Kick off was at 2.30pm and the conditions were great for both players and supporters. Both teams needed a win to progress in the table for the race of being promoted. St Kieran's created chances but failed to finish them. St Kieran’s defense was strong and held Ballyneale from getting in behind them throughout the first half. Ballyneale did create chances but failed to put them in the back of the net. In the centre of the field there was great battling between the St Kieran’s and Ballyneale midfielders. In the first half it was all for the taking as no team dominated the game.
Half time score 0-0.
In the second half St Kieran's came out being very optimistic about their game and edging to get that first goal. Five minutes into the second half and Ballyneale scored a goal, this goal was very disputable. St Kieran’s players were disheartened about the goal but this didn’t affect the game. St Kieran's players pushed on and worked together to try and get a goal back. St Kieran's communication was excellent both on the field and with the advice from the Management. St Kieran's players linked up play very well but unfortunately didn’t get the result they were looking for. St Kieran's were very unfortunate not to win the game or draw. St Kieran's would like to thank the players, management and the supporters and wish them prosperous New Year.
Full Time score, St Kieran's FC 0 – 1 Ballyneale. The Ballyneale goal scorer was Richie Hannan.
